April Hackbarth

Artist

April Hackbarth
Artist. Sculptor. Designer.
Working from the high desert of Idaho, she shapes clay into modern forms that echo the wild—abstract florals, river textures, and the sculptural language of the West.

Work

April Hackbarth’s work lives at the intersection of art and landscape. Her sculptures and ceramic pieces are inspired by the flora and light of Yellowstone country—minimal, tactile, and deeply rooted in place. Each form begins as a loose drawing, guided more by instinct than plan. The process is raw and intuitive: clay becomes sketch, line becomes volume, and what begins as gesture turns into permanence. There is no repetition—only rhythm.Hackbarth’s studio practice reflects an ongoing study of restraint and emotion through material. Her surfaces often carry traces of touch—slight asymmetries, purposeful texture, and subtle glazes that capture the tone of natural light. In her hands, clay becomes both artifact and abstraction, holding the tension between wilderness and refinement. Her approach honors the raw material as much as the story behind it—where craftsmanship and concept meet in deliberate simplicity.
